Some seasons deserve to be remembered exactly as they are. As an Auburn Alabama at-home family photographer, I love when families choose to document the everyday moments that make this stage of life so meaningful. This session was especially sweet because they had only been living in their home for about a month and wanted to remember what life looked like as they settled into this new chapter together.
There wasn’t a big agenda for the morning, and honestly, that’s what made it so fun. We simply spent a slow Saturday together, moving from room to room, hanging out, laughing, and letting the kids be themselves. Those unhurried moments always end up creating some of my favorite photographs because everyone has the chance to relax and just enjoy being together.
One of the things I love most about in-home sessions is that they’re about so much more than the house itself. Years from now, they won’t just remember what their kitchen looked like or where the couch was. They’ll remember reading books together, snuggling on the bed, chasing little feet down the hallway, and what life felt like during this season.
A new home is such a significant milestone for a family, and it deserves to be documented just like birthdays, anniversaries, or welcoming a new baby. Homes change, kids grow, furniture gets rearranged, and before you know it, this season has become a memory.
If you’ve recently moved, don’t feel like you have to wait until every room is perfectly decorated before scheduling photos. Your home doesn’t have to be “finished” to be worth remembering. In fact, there’s something really special about documenting the beginning of a new chapter while it still feels fresh.
These are the kinds of sessions that become more meaningful with time. The little details that seem ordinary today are often the ones you’ll treasure the most years from now.
