I recently had the joy of photographing the sweet Gibbs family for their at their baby’s 3-month milestone for this Alabama at-home nursery photography session. These photos are so precious and the nursery is so gorgeous – let’s get into it.

The Newborn Session Myth

So many people think you have to take newborn photos within the first 10 days or you missed your chance, but I’m here to tell you this is not true. It’s totally fine to schedule your session later. Babies are still super snuggly and cute, even after 10 days. When you look back in 20 years, they’ll still look like tiny little newborns to you. Trust me, anytime you can squeeze in a newborn session, it’s worth it.

Charming Nursery Backdrops

One of my favorite things about at-home newborn sessions is getting to do them in the charming nurseries that families have prepared. This one in particular was really really special. Dad took on the wall features, sourced the wallpaper, and painted it himself. Mom added a charming drawing to the wall, and handled all the little details making the space extra special. This family project made the nursery even more meaningful.

Including Newborn Portraits

For this session, I brought my backdrop to include some posed milestone shots. I love getting to bring my backdrop along because It’s easy to transport and makes for really special portraits. We got a great mix of posed and candid shots, perfectly capturing the personality of their little one. Newborn sessions are not only about freezing time in the delirious yet joyful days of the newborn phase but I also want you to have photos of your baby so you can remember exactly what they looked like.

Why I Love At-Home Sessions

At-home nursery sessions are some of my favorites. Families are comfortable and relaxed in their own space, resulting in natural, heartfelt photos that showcase the love and joy in their homes. I’m also all about freezing time so you can always have tangible things to look back on these precious moments.
